About me

Audrey Mahimwala

I'm a Toronto-based photographer dedicated to capturing the heart and soul of every family I work with. I'm drawn to natural light, soft textures and warm tones. My journey to family photography unfolded after having my own two children. I'd love to document your special moment as a time capsule and family heirloom that you and your loved ones can treasure for generations to come.

A memory, a keepsake.

When I was pregnant with my firstborn, two dear friends of mine gifted me a newborn session with a talented local photographer, something I might not have considered on my own for myself. Shortly after our photoshoot, my daughter was diagnosed with a critical medical condition at 8 weeks old. Our first year as new parents was marked by multiple trips to the hospital, which thankfully ended with a life-saving transplant before her first birthday.

When we were finally ready to have a second child, we went through the pain and frustration of infertility. Three years and one IVF cycle later, I was expecting again and had a maternity photoshoot with me and my now 5-year old daughter, in celebration of this momentous change and answer to prayer. Looking back, those photos mean even more to me now because it brings back memories of everything we've been through.

For me, a good family photograph greets you like a warm hug. It has the extraordinary ability to transport you to a place and time when you need comfort.

A celebration, an act of gratitude.

I honestly don't know any parent who hasn't gone through some sort of trial or hardship in their parenting journey. It might be a miscarriage or infertility. Or finding a life partner. Or having the stability to feel ready for the responsibility and sacrifice required for the parenting journey. And after all that, life seems to have a way of pulling us into many competing priorities that sometimes it's hard to just step back and pause—to celebrate. To see how far we've come and how much we have to be thankful for.

Audrey came to our home to take family photos with our newborn and toddler. It was a great experience and she made it a relaxing process. Before the session, she communicated clearly and made sure she asked lots of questions about what we were hoping for. She got creative to get different angles, using what we had around the apartment. She was patient when we needed some time to settle the kids or take a break. She was organized and the whole process was a good experience.
